About this Product

-This piece is a non-native tribute to the Lakota Nation, faithfully and respectfully recreated in the traditional ways.

Now showing our first ever Lakota style scalp shirt. (Circa 1870)

Fierce, magnificent, and radiating with tribal heritage.

Beginning with two top-quality tanned deer hides, aged to authenticity, and hand stitched In sinew.

The scalp shirt was worn by the bravest of fighting men. Thus, the making of such a shirt, was both a holy and solemn occasion. Only a warrior who himself possessed a scalp shirt could make one for another warrior. The human hair scalp-locks attached to the shirt have great symbolism. Hair was considered an extension of a person's soul. For an Indian warrior to acquire hair from another was to add his power and strength to his own.

(Please note that this piece does not contain human hair)

Lavished in traditional detailing from top to bottom. This scalp shirt is fully beaded front and back in traditional style and design. Hand painted in oils with Battle colors and symbolism.

Hand wrapped horse hair tassels with sinew, died with warrior red tips front and back. Beautiful breast and back displays of beadwork on elk hide and red wool. The front of the shirt contains three white stripes with six battle crosses.

Highly rustic with an antique feel and appearance, this piece embodies the true bravery and strength of the Lakota warrior.

The mounting display of grey driftwood is finished with clear coat, maintaining the beauty of the natural wood

This piece measures 55 inches wide , and approximately 40 inches long.
